Chris Harris and Drive review BMW’s original super 4-door — the retro classic E28 M5. The first BMW M5 released in 1984 was the fastest production sedan in the world at the time. In 1986, the 3,100-pound, 286-horsepower supercar came assembled by hand from the BMW Motorsport factory in Garching, Germany. It weighed the same as the Chevrolet Corvette of the era but packed even more horsepower within the 3.5 liter inline 6 engine. It was a 4-seater but handled like a 2. Chris Harris attests to the longevity of this vintage motorized monster as “… the best money I’ve ever spent on a car.”
