Reverse of Volume is Yasuaki Onishi‘s latest installation and features a remarkable mountainous form made of the simplest materials. White plastic sheeting and hot black glue were the two things that went into creating this piece that offers a floating aesthetic. In a process the Japanese artist calls “casting the invisible,” plastic sheeting is draped over stacked cardboard boxes and glued into place. These supporting boxes are removed once the hot glue has dried, leaving a void under the sheets to create an illusion of suspension. The piece is currently being showcased at the Rice Gallery in Houston, Texas until June 24.
