If you watch the hit HBO television series Boardwalk Empire, you’re certainly familiar with Angela Darmody – the beatnik wife of Atlantic City’s youngest smuggler in charge, Jimmy. But what you may not know is that off-screen, Angela is a multi-talented woman named Aleksa Palladino. And, in addition to having been an actress since the age of 14, she’s also a singer and musician. In fact, after garnering some good press for their performances at SXSW the other week, Palladino and her husband Devon Church are gearing up to release their album, Passage, under the band name Exitmusic. The first single from it – which goes by the same name – has been making its rounds in audio form since February, but is now accompanied by a murky, intriguing video. Check out the William Joines-directed clip above, and see below for a statement from Joines on the meaning behind it.
“Early on, we (the band and I) talked about the song’s feeling of being drawn to something inevitable, like a moth to a flame. I tried to capture that in the video with images as dynamic and cinematic as the song itself.” – William Joines
