Former designer of Ralph Lauren’s Purple and Black Labels, as well as Hermès and Kenzo, Antonio Azzuolo, now runs his own namesake brand where he relishes in pushing the boundaries of design. Early last month the Montreal native showcased his 2012 fall/winter collection which was met with mixed reviews for its ultra-modern aesthetics. Based on the blend of streetwear influences with traditional tailoring, A.A. played with proportions and emphasized layers offering slim-fit tops with loose trousers, cropped blazers, draping knits, as well as shorts over leggings. Going a step further, the imaginative tailor presented a unique take on a Japanese-inspired kimono, presenting multiple variations, including one without sleeves. Azzuolo’s ability to create a new kind of chic is evident in this seasonal collection and certainly has us looking forward to future releases.
