MAMBO: Johnny Weissmuller Tribute Video
Constructed in 1929 and inaugurated by five-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer and Tarzan actor
Constructed in 1929 and inaugurated by five-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer and Tarzan actor Johnny Weissmuller, the famous Parisian Piscine Molitor is set to be torn down later this year. Known for its art deco design and as the birthplace of the bikini, Piscine Molitor was closed in 1989 before being named a historic monument to French culture the following year. The former swimming pool complex is now a known haven for graffiti artists and has been transformed into a colorful masterpiece over the past two decades. Franco-Hungarian artist Mambo recently completed a giant collage in the pool itself as a tribute to the late Olympian and the once state-of-the-art facility. This short film, directed by Nicolas Chambon and Adrien Pavillard, depicts the completion of the grand installation from start to finish.
