Nestled in the seaside community of La Jolla in northern San Diego, California is the The Lemperle Residence designed by architect Jonathan Segal. Having been awarded six national AIA Honor Awards for their housing work, Segal and his company generally erect medium to high-density urban residential units. This residence however is a personal residence for a close friend of the company and his family. Enticing its visitors to enjoy the alfresco decks and expansive glass windows, the house is built in the shape of a slice of pie adjusting its residents outward away from the street and onto the ocean. Nearly every room forces your focus to the ocean through the use of vertical and horizontal planes defining visual edges. Additional design features include highly efficient solar panels, floor heating throughout and glass flooring.
