A Stunning Garage: Speedshop Type One by Torafu Architects

Speedshop Type One is an auto repair shop that was recently given a makeover by Torafu Architects. Located in Tokyo, Japan and specializing in Honda vehicles, the intention was to create a repair shop that would also double as a display floor for visitors. This was achieved, according to the firm, by “sorting out essential and non-essential elements” and focusing on useable function. Aesthetically, the shop’s interior was given a monochromatic grey hue (a shade found on its two-post car lifts), aluminum fittings and tool wagons. The use of common materials throughout the interior’s design, meanwhile, also acts to highlight the cars and gives the auto shop the look and feel of a showroom.
