Renowned African musician Youssou N’Dour has recently proclaimed his candidacy for president of Senegal. The Grammy Award winner is set to face the current incumbent Abdoulaye Wade, as N’Dour feels that the president has tampered the progression of “new Senegal.”

For a long time, men and women have demonstrated their optimism, dreaming of a new Senegal. They have, in various ways, called for my candidacy … I listened I heard.

Just as with any hopeful transition from celebrity to such a high profile elected position, winning will be somewhat of a long shot, but it will be interesting to see how and to what extent N’Dour’s voice is heard.
