Justin Vernon, the frontman for Bon Iver has launched a new label, Chigliak Records. Chigliak is an imprint of the label he is signed to, Jagjaguwar and will concentrate on releasing records that were either “never commercially released” or “locally released [in Wisconsin]” as well as new music. Rolling Stone reports there’s no specific details with regards to material coming from Chigliak in the near future, but Vernon revealed to Pitchfork back in 2010 that the first release from the label would come from Amatuer Love – a band that included members Brad & Phil Cook, who are now in Megafaun. “They put out a record and it probably sold like 500 copies – it was like this electro-pop thing with a Neil Young or Paul Westerberg-quality songwriter, I shit you not,” says Vernon. The name Chigliak is taken from a character on the 1990s U.S. TV series, Northern Exposure.
