The Stumptown series is a collection of original Danner patterns brought back to life with a modern twist. Partnering with innovative designers, Danner is exploring the possibilities of offering modern takes on product built from a simpler time – a time that Danner has not forgotten, a time when product was built to last. Rooted in the Pacific Northwest, Danner chose the Stumptown name as a symbol of the pride they have for their hometown and their connection to Portland, Oregon’s historical logging industry. “Stumptown” is one of the earliest nicknames given to the city of Portland. In the mid-1840s, the city went through a rapid growth forcing land to be cleared away quickly to accommodate for neighborhoods and local businesses. While the trees were being removed, the city did not have the manpower to remove the stumps that lined the streets. In true Portland Oregon fashion, locals crafted ways to use the stumps to their advantage, painting them white to make them more visible and using them to cross the streets without sinking into the mud during the rainy season of the Northwest. Offered below is a look into several of eleven designs in the set, all looking to release on August 15, 2011 through select dealers.
