In an act of great musicianship, various recording artists have paid tribute to influential musician and spoken-word legend Gil Scott-Heron, who passed away on Friday (May 27). Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ghostface Killah and Cee Lo Green expressed their grief mainly through their social media accounts. Eminem pointed out that the singer-songwriter “influenced all of hip-hop” while the Doggfather stated that the late artist was “1 of tha greats.” Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah tweeted, “Salute Mr. Gil Scott-Heron for his wisdom and poetry! May he Rest in Paradise,” whereas Soul Machine Cee Lo Green referred to him as “God.”

Scott-Heron was 62. His death was preceded by an illness following a recent trip to Europe. The cause of his death is still unclear.
