With all of the absurd uproar about Common’s recent spoken word performance at the White House, there could be no better time for the multitalented Chicago native to release new music. Yesterday, Amazon premiered a preview of the first single off of his upcoming ninth album, The Dreamer, The Believer. Not only has the aforementioned controversy and the fact that Common hasn’t put out an album since 2008 made this track a highly-anticipated one, the co-star on it is sure to turn heads as well. The song, entitled “Ghetto Dreams,” features none other than Nas. And although this snippet is only 30 seconds long, it serves as a promising indicator for those who have been waiting for a duet between the two legendary emcees. With production by No I.D., the track certainly has a classic, authentic hip-hop feel to it. Check it out below and be on the lookout for the full song, which will supposedly be made available for purchase on June 23.
