After being one of the most celebrated rappers of all time, owning his own extremely successful clothing line, heading his own major record label, and being co-owner of an NBA franchise, it may seem that there aren’t many other areas Jay-Z can conquer. But apparently, Jay himself felt that one piece to his puzzle of domination was missing: a lifestyle website. The promotional video for Life + Times, which derives its name from Jay’s 1999 album Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter, popped up yesterday to accompany the site’s official launch. The video features a montage of clips that dive into the cultural realms the site will cover: style, leisure, art and design, technology, music and sports. In it, footage of such talents as Toro y Moi—whom we recently interviewed—and renowned photographer Jonathan Mannion can be seen. Further information about Life + Times is scarce, but it will certainly be interesting to see what Jay-Z’s vision behind the project is and how he will carry it out. Who knows, we may even get to see a whole different side of him thanks to ‘Jay’s I,’ the section of the website dedicated to his own personal blog entries.
