Joshu+Vela announce the release of their 2011 range of bench made canvas and leather bags. Located in San Francisco and started by designer Noah Guy, Joshu+Vela creates simple and well-made goods, built to grow more beautiful with age and wear. With 10 years of experience, Noah brings an old philosophy to market: make what you sell. Inspiration for this latest project comes from India’s Khādī movement led by Mahandas Gandhi in the 1920s. Khādī is a cloth that is not only hand loomed, but woven from handspun yarns distinguishing it from the British factory made cloth. The Khādī movement reintroduced independent artisan practice and self-reliance in India which ultimately led to their independence from Britain. Joshu+Vela champions the ideals of artisan craftsmanship and which Gandhi exemplified. The bags are currently available at Unionmade and The General Store in San Francisco.
