The Umbro Modern England Collection represents a new lifestyle initiative from one of England’s most storied sportswear brands. Long known for its affiliation with soccer and its sponsorship of the English National Team, Umbro brought on board Peter Saville to remix some of England’s icons. The St. George’s Cross sees itself applied in several colors alongside the trademark red as well as blue and green, two colors that are seen on England’s crest. All the color in unison help represent the diversity throughout England’s cultural and soccer landscape.
“Both the nation and the fans themselves are more diverse than ever before – whether that’s differences in politics, religion, ethnicity, fashions, music and art. The landscape of England has shifted dramatically over the past couple of decades and we are now one of the most culturally diverse nations in the world. Football is a language that everyone can relate to and the new England home kit provided the perfect canvas to reflect what England looks like today. The reality of modern England is expressed in this pattern as it reclaims the St George’s Cross to positively represent our contemporary society.”
The Umbro Modern England collection is available exclusively from Harvey Nichols. See www.umbro.com for more info.
