Heavy D's cause of death revealed
Officials from L.A. County Coroner’s Officers reported to TMZ that the late rapper Heavy D died
Officials from L.A. County Coroner’s Officers reported to TMZ that the late rapper Heavy D died from a pulmonary embolism caused by deep vein thrombosis. Until now, the rapper’s death was thought to have been through natural causes, with family members previously stating that Heavy D, at 44, was in good health and had no heart problems.
The coroner’s office found, that Dwight Arrington Myers, better known by his stage name – Heavy D, died of a blood clot in his lung, which formed in his leg and eventually travelled through his body to the lung, stopping blood flow. Although usually not fatal, the coroner told TMZ that the rapper suffered from heart disease and state that it usually is a contributing factor to when cases of pulmonary embolism become fatal. Couple that with the fact that Heavy D just days earlier took a long haul flight from the United Kingdom, to which deep vein thrombosis can manifest itself due to long periods of immobility.
A sad conclusion to the investigation as it seems that the death could well have been prevented had Heavy D had been made aware of his heart condition and DVT.
Here’s Heavy D’s last live performance before his death, at the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards.
