Earlier today, reports hit us that Vybz Kartel escaped from prison. According to the Jamaican Observer, this has NOT been the case. Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green stated early this morning that he had no knowledge of this incident. Officials at Denham Town Police Station, the closest police station to the remand center, were also unaware of the reports as was the Constabulary Communication Network who also claimed ignorance of any jail break.
“I know nothing about that. If that had taken place I would would certainly have known. It may be an attempt by his cronies to keep him in the news but they don’t need to spread rumours to do that because he will be in the news for quite some time.”

Old report:
News hit the web that Vybz Kartel has allegedly escaped from Horizon Adult Remand Centre on November 30, 2011 in Jamaica, Spanish Town Road. The dancehall artist has been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, and illegal possession of a firearm in October. In what appears to be the biggest prison escape in Jamaica’s history, Vybz and seven other inmates took the road to liberty.
There has also been one fatality. One prison officer died of a heart attack as a result of the breakout whereas 12 others were injured, including two who were shot with guns that had been smuggled into the prison. Reports indicate that around 1 a.m. local time, Vybz Kartel, whose given name is Adidja Palmer, took control of the prison holding the guards hostage at gunpoint. Some of the inmates took the guards’ clothing and car keys in order to help with their escape.
The group of prisoners also impersonated prison officers on the phone and created false stories to ward off suspicion from authorities. The Police gave chase resulting in the capture of one of the prisoners. At about 1:45 am, they eventually made their way to the prison maintenance pickup-truck which they used to escape from the prison ground.
According to officials, Vybz Kartel and the other escapees are now on the run and are listed as “Jamaica’s most wanted criminals.”
It remains to be seen if this is truly the case. Stay tuned as we will keep you updated on this case.
