Azealia Banks featuring Lazy Jay - 212

Back in September, 20-year-old Harlemite and former XL Recordings artist Azealia Banks released a music video for her spastic, somewhat crude rapping and singing ode to her area code, “212,” which almost immediately began spreading virally throughout the internet and music industry. However, shortly after the video was put up, it was taken down. Apparently, producer Lazy Jay, whose song “Float My Boat” provides the instrumental backdrop for “212,” wasn’t too happy when he saw that Banks hadn’t credited him on the black and white clip. Over the past month-plus since the feud began, Banks has performed several shows overseas and stateside, including a well-received CMJ showcase in New York City. And chances are, anyone who’s attended one of her performances will tell you that “212” is the big crowd pleaser. Her buzz and fanbase has steadily been increasing throughout it all, but without the video being up on YouTube or Vimeo there’s been a hole in the big picture of the young artist’s budding career. Luckily though, to the pleasant surprise of fans, Banks took to Twitter this week to let everyone know that the video is back up on her YouTube page. Since Jay is now credited in the title, perhaps this time the dispute has been fully resolved and the clip is here to stay. Let’s hope so.
