HYPEBEAST Weekly Staff Picks - July 4th

With this week seemingly being seemingly a week of celebrating independence in more then one part of the world, we hope everybody had or is in the process of having a crazy fruitful long weekend of some sort involving copious amounts of fireworks, good friends and good times. This week, things like Kaws x Yue Mingjun’s vinyl, the “Marty McFly” Hyperdunk, Arkitip’s latest project and APC’s Nike team-up for next year have all piqued our interests this past week.

Kevin – KAWS x Yue Mingjun: Art For The Masses Companion

I definitely feel a bit of pride when seeing the rising legion of Chinese artists linked up with some of the world’s greatest and finally burst onto the world scene. To use the cliche term of East meets West, that’s how I see this Yue Mingjun x Kaws team up and the use of both artists’ signature mascots is just awesome.

Jason – Nike Hyperdunk Marty McFly Release

After having a chance to test out the Hyperdunk, the shoe has definitely lived up to its billing as a great ball shoe. Of course, the selling point revolving around the weight of the shoe, other factors work in nicely like great cushioning, good ankle support and a solid overall design with the Flywire tech.

However… enter the McFlys… truly a grail on the list of many as a shoe that really has never been legitimately released through Nike and really impossible to acquire (as it doesn’t release for another 7 years haha), making this Hyperdunk the closet thing. The glow-in-the-dark is a nice touch as well and an accurate representation overall.

Season – APC x Nike 2009 Spring Preview

While looking through the old posts from the past week, I struggled what to pick for this week’s staff’s pick. Items like the Porter Photote Bag, Gallery 1950 x Kaws accessories, Casio G-Shock, Cazal Vintage Sunglasses and the DQM x Nike Blazer were all choices of mine… BUT, after looking at the pictures and reading the posts for 5 minutes, the winner of this week is the APC x Nike sneaker since I’ve always enjoyed simple colorway sneaker like the one below. It’s really as simple as that, a nice clean sneaker.

Eugene – Incase x Krink Curated by Arkitip

This preview has left me curious to see what Arkitip has in-store for their upcoming curation of their new art-driven collection for Incase. Maybe it’s my lack of art knowledge that makes this so interesting to me. Actually, add the fact I don’t use any Apple computers makes this choice even more interesting to why I mysteriously chose this. My lack of knowledge in the art world makes me that much easier in entrusting art in the hands of others to make choices for me haha. Oh well, definitely looking for a full look as we should all know there’s more then just a plain silver laptop case.
