In hopes of coming fast and furious with a t-shirt(s) per week pace for their 1 year anniversary, Purist Boutique are serving two more collaborations this weekend on the back of their inaugural release with Futura Laboratories. Seen here are co-branded products with both Recon and Black Scale. The Recon joint revolves around a military inspiration that has manifested itself with Recon since the start with a twist on mortality, faith and war. The friends & family black/3M version is seen here while the general release will be white/black. With Black Scale, Purist felt the need to create a design which was indicative of the direction that Black Scale was striving for as a beyond the masses fashion forward label. Although the late actor Charlton Heston took every opportunity to lambast and criticize Hip Hop music (most notably his scathing attack on Ice T’s “Cop Killer”) the screen veteran and many of his former lyrical adversaries shared an anomalous infatuation with firearms that would make the NRA proud. Artists ranging from Dr. Dre posing with a revolver on the now iconic Source magazine cover to Dead Prez’s first album “Let’s Get Free” with young children griping automatic weapons in the midst of a revolution have shown Hip Hop’s gun obsession in no ambiguous light. While it may be argued that the pistol references are a reflection of society and in some cases a call to arms for social change, there are very few modern hip hop songs (except maybe Pharoe Monch’s “Gun Draws”) that are solely dedicated to discuss the dangers of the deadly weapons. MC Mickey Factz successfully tackles the subject on his new joint “Machine Gun”.
Bronx born MC Mickey Factz is one of the leaders of the new school whose lyrical dexterity, precise wordplay and pin point flow has attempted to push modern hip hop past its rigid idea of what an MC should sound like. Although closer to the golden era swagger then some of his contemporaries his style is in no way stuck in the past as he has rhymed over unexpected loops containing Electronica, house and other off kilter drum patterns. However, Factz is not content to use the same subject matter as some of his peers who are correctly celebrated for their throw back to the 80s danceable hip hop tunes. Here, Factz gets cerebral and recounts a cautionary tale of violence and gun play over Trip Hop veteran Portishead’s rapid fire drum stabs. The beat, the lyrics and the subject matter is a welcome change of pace from all the hardened gun talk we have become desensitized to.

In an interesting move to diversify themselves as a brand, the Porsche group (the same people behind the automotive giant) will debut their first collection of men’s fragrances and lifestyle products this fall. The aim is to reach a demographic familiar with the passion, creativity and honesty that products only Porsche can bring, albeit on a new platform. Products will include eau de toilette spray, hair and body shampoo and deodorant sticks. Available this Fall at select retailers such as Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom starting in late October.

For Italian brand Untho, their manifesto revolves around a regime of provoking thought in the visual world. With this in mind, their clothing is a small piece of the puzzle in hopes of encouraging people to create a sense of self-awareness for their surroundings with a goal of a better social environment. Their latest collection features their familiar mascot in a few different applications such as t-shirts and knits.
As a by-product of the Japanese and Tokyo commuter lifestyle, we’ve seen numerous Japanese brands dedicated to the creation of bags and accessories. In a recent partnership, Japan’s legendary skate/fixed bike crew T19 looked to custom bag makers Crank to create a messenger bag. The bag is unorthodox in its stylings as it features a long and narrow shape in both black and navy blue colorways. Available now at select T19 retailers.
Following up on their previous jacket, Voyage by WasteTwice has teamed up once again with Lowe Alpine; this time offering a more technologically advanced Gore-Tex product. The jacket features Gore-Tex’s top of the line Pro-Shell material in a lightweight and extremely breathable package. Large pockets can be seen along the waist as well as diagonal zips on the chest. Collaborations such as these offer top of the line performance with a renewed sense of aesthetics that are often not provided by typical mountaineering companies such as Lowe Alpine. Japanese store Eliminator has taken to one of Fred Perry’s classics in the Bomber Jacket in a special collaboration for the 2008 fall/winter season. The vintage and timeless aesthetic of the 60s Bomber Jacket undergoes a contemporary refinement with the use of a shiny body complete with bright accented colors. Three colors in total are available, while each share the same silver body, yellow, blue and orange accents can be seen. Available now at Eliminator.
