To celebrate the upcoming Hellboy sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Universal Pictures collaborated with Adidas Originals to create two very exclusive pair of shoes with the Forum Mid and Stan Smith Mid as base models. Designed with Universal Studios, the Forum Mid comes in a good mix of red, black, and gold with a white bottom sole. It has an Original Adidas logo on the tongue with an emblazoned Hellboy logo on the velcro strap.
The Stan Smith mid, created with Dark Horse, comes in black patent leather with red shoelaces. It features an exclusive image of Hellboy himself in a very stylized graphic. It also has very nice details including an engraved outer sole, lace jewels, and unique tongue branding. Both shoes come in a special box and will be released in very limited quantities in July at Adidas Original Stores worldwide.
There’s not much to write about Beck that hasn’t already been written. The art pop critical darling has effectively meshed indie, punk, folk, electro and hip hop, collected awards and glowing reviews without breaking a sweat. Beck’s effortlessly cool nonchalant image coupled with poignant songwriting has made him the voice of his generation as well as the overused yet fair title of “the new Bob Dylan”. His most famous albums “Odelay” and “Sea Change” are completely opposite musically but both share the brilliance of an immensely gifted songwriter. However, as his recording career hits close to the 14 year mark and his average fan that have followed his career slowly start growing up it can be argued that Beck faces a battle converting new fans with his eight album “Modern Guilt”.
Although, Beck needs little help in the musical department he has gotten some from the seemingly ever present producer Danger Mouse. The first leaked track from “Modern Guilt” is a song entitled “Chem Trails”. If the first single is any indication of what the rest of the album will sound like it appears that Beck is returning to his psychedelic vibe that was pervasive on his first album. “Chem Trails” harkens to 60s British rock with a Pink Floyd inspired flair and Beatles moaning vocals. Danger Mouse’s presence is immediately felt as his trademark haunting organs lay a foundation for the virtuoso drumming and muted bass. The start and stop formula is used to a powerful effect on the track and eventually culminates into a string heavy guitar thrashing finale that is more “Summer of Love” then summer of high gas prices.

Taking a theme literally and running with it is probably the best way to describe Atmos’ latest sneaker collaboration with Puma. Three endangered species from the snowy wastelands of the Arctic and Antarctic are portrayed through the eyes of Puma’s vintage model, the Clyde as well as a lesser seen model, Mid. The pack of animal-based sneakers grabs its inspiration largely from wildlife photographer Mitsuaki Iwago (of National Geographic) and photos accumulated over the years. The pack, aside from pushing the envelope for sneaker themes was created to bring awareness to the dire wildlife preservation situation. The three animals chosen as inspirations include the Harp Seal Clyde, Polar Bear Clyde and Macaroni Penguin Mid (frills seen around the ankle). Exclusive to Atmos, these will release on June 28th with price tags ranging from $125 USD to $150 USD.

Completing our trifecta of upcoming Air Max 90 release from Nike is this three pack of sneakers. In essence they aren’t really a true pack as they are loosely affiliated only by their patent side bumper and mesh toeboxs. First up is an all white runners classic with the main highlight coming from a brightly colored sole. Next up are black/gold and red/white joints which are more closely related with the use of ostrich leather on the upper. Nike seems to have really begun to ditch the leather toeboxes which many Air Max fans were beefing about. Look for these to land in Nike accounts in the very near future.
