Skateboarding’s street revolution owes a big part to Manhattan. “Deathbowl…” is the first film to really explore skateboarding’s urban history in-depth, including many of the 70’s pioneers and current players in the game. Chloe Sevigny narrates the film and major artists, such as the Beastie Boys, have contributed music. The NYC preview of “Deathbowl to Downtown – The Evolution of Skateboarding in New York City,” is happening May 8, at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center. Attendees of will receive a custom giftbag designed by Worship Worthy and graphic designer Steve NIsh containing the an elephant print Nike SB wallet, Nike SB Staple Design Pigeon socks, Keep Koozie, 5Boro skateboard magnets, and a Mountain Dew Green Label Art Bottle designed by Chuck Anderson.

In commemoration of Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant and his 2008 MVP crowning, Nort has produced a Nort shirt incorporating Bryant’s logo and Lakers colors. This marks the latest chapter in this ongoing relationship which has seen the pair release a Nike Kobe x Nort pack back in 2006 featuring a limited Nike Kobe 1 and leather jacket.
On the heels of their original retail location in Singapore, What’s Good has expanded into neighboring Malaysia to open their second location in Kuala Lumpur. Look for the store to stock brands such as Kno1edge, Crooks & Castles, Haze, Hellz, In4mation, Futura Laboratories and brknhome. The grand opening party featured Hong Kong’s 24Herbs, rap artist Jin and the release of some special grand opening products.

Band of Outsiders has quickly become a reputable representative of the American fashion scene, with their Sperry collaboration falling neatly in place with this season’s inspirations. Here’s a look into Canadian outfit GDFT’s 2008 spring collection of t-shirts focusing largely on a sporting aspect. Homages are paid to the former Vancouver Grizzlies (Big Country Reeves, best player ever or what?), Louisville Slugger, Muhammad Ali and Joe Carter’s 1993 World Series three run home run to take home the title.

A new generation of fitted caps from The Hundreds and their beloved Adam Bomb character have recently dropped across various retailers. The 2nd round of the NBA playoffs are well on their way with the LA Lakers doing extremely well in the Western Conference. Kobe Bryant has been hearing the “MVP” chant for a while now, but it was just on May 6th that it was officially announced that Kobe had finally won the League’s Most Valuable Player award after 12 years. For this occasion, Nike has released a special “MVP” Player Edition of the Zoom Kobe III’s. Kobe has been seen wearing these kicks for the first 2 games of the Lakers vs. Jazz series. These sneakers sport the Lakers’ signature colors of yellow and purple on a white base, and were made with a translucent shoe box. These PEs are not scheduled for any release.

Allegedly part of the latest Euro Champ Pack of sneakers from Nike inspired by various soccer nations, this latest Nike Dunk High draws reference to the infamous samba boys of Brazil in their iconic yellow/green colorway. But obvious geographical differences all but ensures that Brazil won’t be on hand for Euro 2008, co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland. This particular Brazilian inspired release seems like a suitable contemporary update to previous Brazil Dunks seen in the past. Available now at LTD-Online.
colette Gallery was the setting for artist and graphic designer Eric Elms’ most recent exhibition which launched May 5th. The exposition included both portraits and installations to offer attendees a sense of Elms’ diverse style which has been developed as an amalgamation of numerous trips and inspirations around the world.

The wheels for Converse’s latest collaborative efforts were set in motion recently with Japanese brand Sonic Lab on their Rogger model. Unlike conventional collaborations that emphasize the manipulation of color, Sonic Lab’s styles include additional features beyond the norm such as suede skirts and leather double ring straps.
