The history of the Puma Clyde dates back to around 1973, when New York Knicks player Walt Frazier asked Puma for a wider fit of their suede basketball shoes. Puma decided to sign and endorse Frazier. Soon after that, Frazier had his nickname of “Clyde” imprinted on every pair of the suede Puma’s. Frazier received his nickname from Bonnie & Clyde, the very dapper and sly pair of criminals. With his ability to put together a clean outfit coupled with his on-court defensive qualities, the nickname only seemed fitting. There are only a few shoes that can qualify as a classic, and the Puma Clyde is surely one of them. Puma continues the legacy with their latest collaboration with mita sneakers of Japan, the Puma MITA Clyde. The MITA Clyde’s are made in Japan, and will only be sold at mita sneakers. With only 185 pairs being produced, they will be released on January 2nd for 18,900 yen (approx. $208 USD).
