Rihanna Breaks Records & The Lumineers Take Over the Charts
The Lumineers’ new album did very, very well.
In the past week, Kanye West was the artist dominating headlines for his command of the Billboard charts. After his most recent studio album The Life of Pablo finally saw wide release, the LP fared well on the charts. Now, it’s back to business for the Billboard charts: it’s currently Rihanna‘s world, other artists just live in it.
As we reported earlier in the week, Rihanna topped a Billboard record of The Beatles, with “Work” eclipsing The Beatles’ previous Hot 100 record by one week. Yet another week of “Work at No. 1 on the Hot 100 places Rihanna #2 overall, with Mariah Carey still in control of that ranking’s top spot after all these years.
While Rihanna might be the one receiving much of the pop headlines, The Lumineers are the ones who impressed the most this week. The American pop-folk act dropped their sophomore studio album Cleopatra this week, and the album swept the No. 1 positions on the Top Album Sales, Digital Albums, Independent Albums, Vinyl Albums and the coveted Billboard 200. Thanks to that record, the band themselves are also at No. 1 on the Artist 100.
Elsewhere, Justin Bieber‘s “Love Yourself” was still No. 1 on the Radio Songs ranking and Bieber himself still dominates the Social 50. Desiigner’s “Panda” holds the top spot for Streaming Songs, meaning it’s the most streamed song out there right now. And, with his season upon us, Drake’s “One Dance” lands at No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart.
