However, CBS News recently shared that a Bowie segment had been in the works since 2003. 60 Minutes editor Robert Zimet had arranged numerous sessions with the icon and recorded a collection of material, although the profile ultimately remained unfinished due to correspondent conflicts. The never-before-seen Bowie tapes have now been released, revealing a complex artist who likens his approach to music to a search for God. “There’s an effort to reclaim the unmentionable, the unsayable, the unspeakable, all those things come into being a composer, into writing music, into searching for notes and pieces of musical information that don’t exist,” he says.
