The Brakepack Helps Cyclists Communicate With Drivers on the Road

One of the biggest struggles and causes of accidents on the road are cyclists and drivers failing to communicate properly. While cycling becomes increasingly popular in big cities, the frustrations between sharing the road becomes increasingly pronounced. In comes the Brakepack by Artefact, which is a backpack that the cyclist wears to help him or her signal to motorists. The designers used RGB LED lights in the prototype that is connected to a smartphone app, which helps cyclists convey exactly what his or her intentions are on the road. Connected through a low Bluetooth mechanism, the smartphone app will automatically change the signals on the bag so the cyclist won’t lose focus on the road, while capacitive touch controls on the shoulder straps make the product usable for cyclists without smartphones.
