Explore the Iconic Movie Posters of the Criterion Collection
A masterclass in striking and succinct movie poster design.
Launched in 1984, the Criterion Collection is now the final word in the most important films to the art of cinema, with its catalog covering a range of cult arthouse films from across the decades. When a film is selected for inclusion in the Criterion Collection, it also receives a special poster design to elevate its status to that of a classic film. These posters in themselves have gained a cult following of their own, with the often minimalist, yet striking designs of the films spawning a design language that has been mimicked by no small number of graphic designers eager to interpret their own favorite films. To celebrate these posters, the Criterion Collection has released an art volume dedicated to the posters of all of its 106 films. Offering a comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at the rough drafts and sketches that led to the final form of the posters, Criterion Designs is now available online for $80 USD.
