Appearing on Bloomberg‘s Market Makers yesterday was Nike CEO Mark Parker after the brand’s Nike Women Innovation Summit in New York. Touching on areas such as the women’s sports market and advances in manufacturing technologies, Parker outlines Nike’s conscious decision to move in the direction of a lifestyle brand in that he believes a cultural shift has put sports and fitness in a position that permeates many aspects of everyday life. As part of that shift, women are one of the fastest growing sectors of their consumer base, says Parker, and are catered to by Nike’s sponsorship of athletes like Skylar Diggins. Nike’s heavy investment in social media and sports apps were also discussed, as was the potential to move manufacturing back to the U.S. thanks to new technologies such as Flyknit that significantly simplify the manufacturing process. Enjoy the 13-minute-long interview above, and leave your thoughts below.
