Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight Concept

Set to make its in-the-flesh debut next week at CES is Audi‘s Sport Quattro Laserlight concept car. An evolution of the auto marque’s Sport Quattro concept, the Laserlight is a showcases for Audi’s latest technology, namely its new laserlight headlights. In place of the usual LED diodes, the car’s headlamps instead feature laser diodes that can illuminate the road ahead up to 1,640 feet. These miniature laser diodes measure just a few microns across but put out light at twice the distance and with triple the luminosity of traditional LED beam lights. In addition to the lighting, the car also features a high-res, three-dimensional display powered by a Nvidia Tegra 30 processor. This display is context-sensitive, meaning it will display the appropriate kinds of information when it’s needed. Powering this tech-laden car is a plug-in hybrid system capable of producing 700 horsepower, all the while producing roughly 94 miles per gallon. No word on whether this car will become a production reality but expect the featured technology to filter down to the rest of Audi’s range.
