It wouldn’t be a Geller collection without the designer’s mainstays — relaxed shorts, trousers, tailoring and slub sweatshirts in evening hues, yet for Spring 2013, the designer showed a willingness to lighten up. Veering a bit from the brooding, post-punk aesthetics from seasons past, Robert Geller presented a gradual transition perhaps best expressed by the leather half-shirt, cut away to reveal an artfully printed shirt and shorts combo. As if to hint at the impending lightening up of both color and fabric, a number of the looks involved circular sunglasses, retro yet timeless in the way Geller’s pieces always tend to be. Most notably, the collection was filtered through the lens of street — a collaboration with Common Projects, for instance, and neoprene leggings that might get Kanye’s stamp of approval.
