The Nike MAG is no longer the “greatest shoe never made.” The mythical shoe that originally captured the imagination of audiences in Back to the Future II is being released — and they’re here to help create a future without Parkinson’s disease. 1,500 pairs of the 2011 Nike MAG will be auctioned on eBay with all net proceeds going directly to The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Each day for the duration of the ten-day auction, 150 pairs of the 2011 Nike MAG shoes will be made available via eBay’s Fashion Vault. The auction starts at September 8, 8:30 p.m. PST, and will end September 18. Thanks to a previous 50 million dollar match given to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, all donations will be matched, effectively doubling the contributions from the auction.

    I think the shoes are better off not worn at all. They look better as display or let us say “for your eyes only items.”  Good if there’s a purpose in designing this shoes. At least it goes to a foundation to help people.

    Very noble cause but it’s sort of unjust for those, like me, who really loved the trilogy and dreamed of being like Marty with those kicks. My question is why all the publicity and marketing to a broad audience, when they were only leaving them for a select few who could bid. My guess is that Universal said no to clearing the licensing for mass production but would look insensitive if they denied a charitable effort…. My stomach literally turned when I read the first paragraph.

    Alright well since they are going to a charity, Nike bet not just give away pairs for free to their buddies like clark kent, mayor, greg street, or any celebs. Not tryna hate but if they say it’s just an auction for charity then they need to stand behind their word!!!

    these ARE extremely limited and very exclusive. only 1,500 pairs for the whole world of 7 billion humans. and only the people who are willing to pay the most money will acquire them. seems like the most limited release nike has ever done.

    even though it’s for a good cause, i agree— it’s going to be nearly impossible to get your hands on one (unless you’re rich, haha). although i can’t say i’m disappointed in their decision (since it’s all going to a great cause, and this is a great way to raise funds), at least mass-produce the hover board or something for us hardcore BTTF fans lol.
