From the designer of the popular U-Boat series of watches comes Welder. The line of watches crafted by Italo Fontana embodies some of the same familiar design language from U-Boat in the form of large over-sized casings and technical designs. Of the styles seen here, each features a large-scale 50mm sizing although other models range from 40mm all the way to 53mm. The line is available now at SSENSE.

    U-Boat is only big now because marketing firms decided to push it hard during a meeting. They’re just like Bell & Ross. Start featuring them in GQ magazine and tell everyone they’ve been around for a hundred years. It appears to have worked on people, but if you’re going to own one really nice $5000 watch, make it amodern twist of a more classic style. These are just fads, and all fads will pass and look silly later. Think ‘skinny jeans’ a year from now (or even today).
