Created for the 2009 Wimbledon Championships, Nike works up a new apparel collection for tennis superstar Roger Federer:

“This year we took inspiration from a jacket in the Nike Sportswear line, the M-65. Based on this modern interpretation of a classic military silhouette from 1965, we used the body as a starting point and created a tailored look for Roger to wear when walking on and off court. This contemporary piece is intricately hand-crafted and includes engraved zipper pulls with premium detailing throughout the garment that’ll give Roger a clean, understated look as he walks on court. The herringbone texture speaks to traditional menswear, tailoring elements, bespoke suits, and classic menswear fabric.

There is also a coordinating vest, polo and trousers that Roger can wear in different ways depending on the weather throughout the tournament. These have also been designed to be worn for his pre-match warm-ups as they incorporate Dri-FIT fabric technology that works to keep them cool and wick sweat away from the skin.”

His jacket and pants he enters the court in are awesome, pure class and style. For too long the Williams sisters have been the ones bringing their trashy style to the court, Federer is doing it way better.

If I can get that jacket with my initials and not his… I’m so in.

This is wayyy cooler than the Nadal pink polo. http://www.gototennisblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/rafael_nadal_french_open1.jpg

I know Roger is catching some flak for his this outfit, but I say more power to him….tennis players only have so many years when they can cash in on their fame so any and all endorsements and product repping he can do is his perogative…plus, I actually think this whole ensemble looks pretty cool – classic, yet modern, and it’s not like one of Deion Sanders’ purple pimp outfits or something too ridiculous. I know the Reuters article said he looked like an army general ready to embark on a campaign haha….better to look like a general than a pimp, right?

Speaking of endorsements, has anyone seen the brand new Gillette ad with Roger, Tiger, and Derek Jeter? I just saw it for the first time yesterday…it’s a little more serious than the earlier “Staying Alive” spot, probably because of the different musical selection – it’s “Dream Within a Dream” by Action Action. Anyway you can check out a video of this ad at:

Tennis Magazine called this outfit “Country Club, upper crust, Porsche-driving snob” and I totally agree with them. He’s finally hit the “Sampras 14 Douche Quotient” and don’t tell me that Pistol Pete didn’t get this way either…He did and it was just sad and snobby at the same time. Margaret Court won more than anyone and she never once gave a damn about looking like a model-quin or acting like the upper crust of society. Neither does Nadal. He’s a gentleman because he’s surrounded by family(not biz reps) and dresses fashion forward for himself-NOT MAGAZINES. Rafa should wear the military get-up because HE IS A TRUE FIGHTER!
