With market uncertainty lingering despite consistent increases in the global stock markets as of late, Rick Owens forges ahead with his latest venture as he opens the doors to an all-new flagship store in London. The store is set on a quaint little corner on South Audley Street away from the emergence of retail district Mount Street. The former antique shop measures in at 3,8000 square feet over two floors and has already provided an outlet for a different kind of Rick Owens shopper; “The London customer is kind of a mix between a Paris customer and the New York customer. Kind of with that sense of romance of the Parisian customer but [mixed] with the very sharp and demanding New York customer.” To enhance the mood of the store, a series of one-off items include first editions of E.F. Benson’s 1916 novel “The Freaks of Mayfair,” and DVDs of Alla Nazimova’s 1923 silent film adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s “Salome. Perhaps the most chilling prop however is the wax sculpture of Rick Owens head. Shoppers can also dip their hand into a candle bowl of gray and white m&ms which feature Owens’ logo. Moving forward, a Tokyo store seems to be on the horizon as well for the talented designer.
