After limiting their product primarily to the overseas market and select locations within the US, Bape looks to open their online store very soon. Offering up their limited edition goods and hard-to-find garments, the Japanese streetwear brand opens up their availability extensively. The only question remains whether the store is set-up for worldwide distribution or will remain strictly for the Japanese market. Stay tuned.

I don’t know where a lot of these haters are getting their opinions, but maybe it’s a US thing, because Bape’s still going strong in other countries. I recently visited HK, Japan, and Taiwan and Bape is still widely worn and respected. *shrug* To each their own, although I do admit that my love of Bape has slowly waned over the past few years to where I’ve only made purchases when I was conveniently near a Bape store to avoid the third party price hikes.

Their designs have become more and more controversial and arguably poor over time, but on the other hand a number of their items are becoming more cut and sew and less print-centric which is a sign of maturation.

Ultimately it’s the price point that’s the death knell, even though their quality is above average, it’s not premium quality enough to command the prices they retail for. Then again, a number of other high fashion and Japanese streetwear brands have sketchy quality as well, so to some extent that point becomes moot.

For instance my Filippa K M-65 inspired jacket which is much higher quality than Bape retails for $600, and yet I see threads starting to wear out along the cuffs which is somewhat disappointing. My OF shirts have loose threads on the sleeves after 1 wash, and the interior of my OF hoodies coat my Ts with enormous amounts of lint whereas my Bape Ts and hoodies have never exhibited either.

On the other hand, my Bape and OF Ts are the best quality Ts I’ve ever seen, especially OF. I don’t know why, but OF T bodies are incredibly soft and resilient! Are either company’s Ts worth $60-100? Probably not, but neither is that faux punk Ed Hardy or Christian Audigier crap which sells for $60 as well!

In the end, I think all of us are a bunch of silly fashion and brand whoring nuts who pay far too much for everything in general, but if you’re happy with your purchases and you know you’ve got it then rock it and rock it hard!

P.S. You could always get H&M and pretend it’s not if you want budget friendly threads ^_~

Finally. bape is OFFICIALLY over. Now they might as well start selling their over -priced, poorly designed stuff (that usually makes no sense) at Wal-Mart. I go to a mall in CT and see every other kid wearing bape-stas etc. And here in NYC it’s everywhere, like Old Navy! Not that success automatically makes a co. uncool, the opposite, money is what they do it for, but Bape is just the most over-hyped brand in the world. And it’s just not that great, does anyone really like their stuff? If it didn’t say Bape all over it would anyone rock some of those crappy $100 t shirts? Example: “baby Milo”- big headed dumb cartoon, 3 color screen print on an average t-shirt..$120. c’mon”

Shirts are $76 you retard. I was in NY a month ago and didn’t see 1 person wearing Bape. Not even any Fape. Bape is dead to the trend hoppers that jumped on 2 years ago and rocked Fape shit for a minute then found out it was Fape and how much real Bape costs and then acted like they moved on cause it wasn’t cool. You probs got a closet full of Fape you don’t feel right wearing anymore.

  • sarah

Good! Now I don’t have to detour my trips to spend a few days in London to hit up the Bape store =))))))

Just a bunch a young punks hating who think they are “fly” or whatever the kids say these days.

young punk – I am so “fly” because I wear a clothing brand no one know about!!

    lol

Yes Bape does release quite a few t-shirts, shoes, etc. that are crap. Yes many of their designs a way to simple and they could have put more work into it.
Many clothing companies can only wish they could get to the level of fame Bape is at. I understand that some clothing companies would like to keep their clothing line “underground”, but when it comes to money and keeping the business afloat you must take actions that you wish you didn’t have to.

I strongly doubt their online prices will be set lower than that of their retailers, because then they’re undercutting them. By default, most direct sales prices are set at a “premium” price, to avoid conflict with distributors/resellers. Oh and I wouldnt’ bank on free overseas shipping. I gotta agree w/ most of you… this is 5 yrs too late. Bape was played out years ago… Fape and Baby Milo certainly didn’t help…haha.

Example: “baby Milo”- big headed dumb cartoon, 3 color screen print on an average t-shirt..$120. c’mon

Example: “baby Milo”- big headed dumb cartoon, 3 color screen print on an average t-shirt..$120. c’mon
