Megan Thee Stallion Sued by Former Cameraman for Harassment and Hostile Workplace
Cameraman Emilio Garcia claims he was forced to watch the singer have sex while in a moving car.
Megan Thee Stallion is being accused of harassment and creating a hostile workplace in a lawsuit filed by a former cameraman.
Emilio Garcia says that while working for the artist, the “harassment was so severe or pervasive” that it cultivated a “hostile, abusive work environment.”
According to the suit, which was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, Garcia began working as a personal cameraman for Megan in 2018. The following year, he quit his job to work for her full-time until June 2023, when he was fired by Roc Nation.
Garcia says in the suit that he traveled with Megan to Ibiza in 2022 and was in an SUV with Megan and three other women for a night out when the star and one of the women had sex next to him in the car.
The next day, Megan asked Garcia if he was with them in the car and when he confirmed that he was, she told him, “don’t ever discuss what you saw,” per the suit.
Garcia said that during the same trip, he “endured a barrage of relentless sexual and fat-shaming comments plunging him into profound emotional distress,” and that Megan called him a “fat bitch” and told him to “spit your food out” and said “you don’t need to be eating.”
Following the trip, Garcia claims that his compensation structure was altered, going from a $4,000 USD monthly flat rate to a pay-per-gig system in which he submitted invoices for each task.
He says in the suit that he was booked less by Megan and was on the schedule for a June 2023 gig but was fired by Roc Nation the night before.
Garcia is claiming that he suffered physical and emotional distress, physical injuries and a loss in earnings and other benefits. He claims that he was without insurance coverage while working for Megan and although he was classified as an independent contractor, was barred from working for anyone else, as well as denied overtime pay or breaks.
The cameraman says he now “grapples with mounting anxiety, depression, and physical distress stemming from the toxic work environment,” per the suit.
Garcia told news outlets that he’s seeking more than six-figures for unpaid wages and overtime and other benefits. He’s also aiming for punitive damages, statutory penalties and wage penalties in accordance with California law.
