As part of some of Japan’s most well-known skaters/bikers in T19 and realmad HECTIC, YOPS has announced the debut of their instructional DVD set, Fixed Gear Bike “First Step”. With a strong fixed gear culture in Japan, T19 and the HECTIC crew make formidable teachers as they ride you through back riding, skids, back circles, lift ups and wheelies. As this represents Chapter 1, we expect a full out series on the way down the road.
With the growing popularity of the track bike movement, track frames are quickly becoming the hot topic for customization among a growing list of alternative templates for art coming to fruition as of late. From electronics to sneakers and surfboards, track frames merge together the world of art and consumerism. For the upcoming “Pressure” art exhibition put on by Cinelli bikes and RVCA, Barry McGee’s bike seen here joins a list of artists including Ashley Macomber, Clare Rojas, C.R. Stecyk III, Dan Murphy, DMOTE, Jesse Geller, Josh Lazcano, KAWS, Madsaki, Phil Frost, RVCA founder PM Tenore and Stephen Powers. The inaugural showing is set for June 19th, at RVCA’s flagship store in San Francisco with subsequent trips to Austin, Texas, the home of multiple Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong and his newly opened store Mellow Johnny’s. The Barry McGee set is limited to 50 sets in three sizes, 54, 56 and 58. The set of 50 will be divided into 25 complete bikes ($3,700 USD) and 25 frame-only kits ($2,100 USD) and for sale only through RVCA and Mellow Johnny’s.

The tees and bikes are priced at $40 USD and $1200 USD respectively.
The wide sweeping effect of fixed gear riding has resulted in the creation of Mishka’s own fixed gear team of riders. The Death Adders Road and Track (D.A.R.T) Cycling Team groups together some of the areas most prominent and innovative riders around, in hopes they bring a sense of innovation and creativity to the sport. For the Brooklyn based brand, a bike team was a natural progression for an aspect of their every day culture.

In a recent Air Force 1 Silver Service display at London’s Dover Street Market, the design collective, the Wilson Brothers created a handmade fixed gear bike to celebrate the AF1. How the two are related, I’m not sure, however a short documentary will also be featured documenting the construction of the bicycle with an ad campaign to follow.
