On the 11th of April 2008 Sabre Vision opened its International concept showroom, DON’T PANIC, in Newport Beach, California. DON’T PANIC, open to the public, showcases limited edition styling, brand collaborations and Sabre apparel, all of which are available for purchase. With an all-black atmosphere, the dark feel to the space is broken by a unique water feature – a toilet fountain. Bape founder Nigo was on hand today as Bape Hong Kong was at the center of two huge celebrations. As previewed yesterday in a series of t-shirts, both the 15th anniversary of Bape as well as the 2nd anniversary of Bape Hong Kong were given tribute. Three different styles of tees were on hand including a special t-shirt available for signing by Nigo. This should mark the end of an extensive visit by Nigo and crew in Hong Kong as this trip has seen not only the celebration of various Bape anniversaries but the throwing of the successful World Wide Bape Heads 2008 Show as well.
Pharrell Williams and Shay Haley of high profile music group NERD recently held an intimate autograph session for fans at Hong Kong’s flagship BBC | Ice Cream store. The event was marked by the release of an exclusive t-shirt which was then made available for autographs. A special guest appearance also featured Juno of Hong Kong lifestyle brand SiLLY THING. Tomorrow night, NERD will take the stage alongside Kanye West and the Terriyaki Boys for this years World Wide Bape Heads Show.
Wrapping up earlier this week, Milan hosted Signjam, a cultural forum on the roots and development of streetwear. The event was marked by high profile personalities offering their opinions and insights on the past and present state of streetwear. They included the likes of photographer Fats Shariff, artist SheOne, label VNGRD, DJ, cultural commentator Bobbito Garcia and Steven Vogel. Among the events was a special hand screened t-shirt, sneaker customization and a party hosted in conjunction with retailer Slamjam.

The launch event for the Damien Hirst x Warhol Factory x Levi’s collaboration featuring art meets consumerism took place this past Saturday. The event featured lavish displays of denim, splashed furiously with multiple colors of paint outliving their purpose as apparel and reaching into the legion of art. One pair of denim was allegedly priced at $80,000 USD. The pop-up shop is currently open at Santa Monica’s Fred Segal Man.

Yesterday we posted about the opening night of Murakami’s exhibit at Brooklyn Musuem, today we’re following up with some action shots of what went down. Kanye West rocked the stage as usual, even Marc Jacobs couldn’t resist taking pictures of the champion rapper. Louis Vuitton took the war against counterfeiters one step further by taking over their turf and setting up street vendors that sell authentic LV bags. Murakami’s new Monogramouflage, an overlay of LV signature monogram with camouflage print, were on sale for $6,000 dollars a piece. Again, be sure to check out the exhibit if you’re around the area, Murakami’s Superflat style will open your eyes to what contemporary art is all about.

Nike’s much anticipated exhibition, Being True, curated by Aaron Rose and Emma Reeves, is opening tonight at the 114 LAB in Los Angeles. The exhibit is a celebration for the 22nd anniversary of the iconic Nike Dunk. The photographs exhibited will try to capture what the Dunk represents and how it has influenced, not only the streetwear industry, but our entire culture. The exhibition space is very simple and clean, giving way for the images to speak their message. However, the floor with its white, red, and black dots, gives an intriguing personality to the overall space. If you’re in the area, this is definitely worth checking out. In addition a special opening party was recently held with many big names in attendance from the likes of Tour de France marvel Lance Armstrong, to artists Kaws and Eric Haze among others.

Last night marked the opening party representing the WTAPS and Neighborhood’s joint concept shop Hoods. The event featured an eclectic mix of celebrities from both Hong Kong and abroad ranging from influential musicians and artists to general fans of the highly respect Japanese brands. Music over the evening was provided by rock band Jackie & The Cedrics, Tet of WTAPs, Shinsuke of Neighborhood and Hikaru of Bounty Hunter. The Hoods Hong Kong is currently open as of April 1st.
