The 27 year old artistic genius, Jean-Michel Basquiat, gained popularity as an artist by doing graffiti in the Subway as well as the ghetto ares of New York. Unfortunately, Basquiat is no longer with us but his art continues to influence modern day artists as well as products such as this Basquiat x Reebok NPC UK Basquiat sneaker. Reebok has commissioned the art of Basquiat and has transformed the NPC UK sneaker into a piece of wearable art. These shoes are available starting February 5th at Atmos Tokyo.

Historic Grafitti in Soho

Historic Grafitti in Soho

Something often dismissed as an urban legend came true yesterday. For years rumors circulated of an intense mural located somewhere in New York’s Soho district encompassing some of graffiti’s hall of fame participants. The mural includes works by Futura 2000, Fab 5 Freddy and a contribution rumored to be that of graffiti/expressionist Jean-Michel Basquiat. The mural could be considered as the beginning of graffiti. Careful procedures are in place to safe keep the work. The building was slated for demolition to make room for new luxury condo’s. The mural will be available for public display as par the retrospective graffiti art movement exhibit titled “The Wild Style Exhibit” starting Thursday.
