The worldly implications of this years American presidential race have incited a large outpouring of unconventional support from many sources. The legion of Upper Playground artists and affiliates have had a strong allegiance to Democratic candidate Barack Obama. Previous works from the likes of The Date Farmers, MunkOne, Alex Pardee, Morning Breath, Mac and Sam Flores comes another artist to join the ranks. Legendary pop-artist Ron English has reappropriated a classic portrait of former American president Abraham Lincoln in the likeness of Obama. Two hundred 18” x 24” prints, priced at $200 are available for pre-order now at Upper Playground.
Most people have confidently nestled the fate of America in one Barack Hussein Obama as he vies for presidential candidacy in this years 2008 US elections. Widely backed by many influential entities, artist collectives Shepard Fairey and Upper Playground’s backing of Obama has gone far and wide culminating in posters and most recently t-shirts. The t-shirts featuring the words “Hope” and “Progress” will be available for sale through both Upper Playground and Obey. While no man is perfect and we’re not subjected to 24/7 worth of presidential race news, surely the man has some Achilles Heel to his platform?
This year’s presidential race has been a hot topic, drawing the attention of the normally apathetic American population as people are turning out in droves to have their say in the 2008 elections. Barack Obama has gained a huge following, everything from the celebrity filled music video Barack Obama Yes We Can to this recent print produced by the artist collective known as the Date Farmers in conjunction with FIFTY24SF. The signed and numbered print seen here is part of Upper Playground’s push for Obama in his upcoming Texas primaries. These prints reflect the same imagery seen on Obama’s Texas campaign. All proceeds from the $200 prints will be used to support other artist efforts in support of Barack Obama. Currently on pre-sale, the prints will ship out March 7th.
