COMME des GARÇONS, meaning “like boys” in French, is a Japanese fashion label founded by Rei Kawakubo. Renowned for its avant garde aesthetic and unconventional silhouettes, Kawakubo transformed the brand into a successful fashion label. CDG is headquartered in Tokyo’s Aoyama district, with a strong worldwide presence. COMME des GARÇONS also includes many diffusion lines, such as PLAY, Noir, Homme Plus, Homme Plus Sport, SHIRT, Tricot and more. Later in 2004, CDG developed a market-based department store Dover Street Market, which stocks its main collections as well as its diffusion lines, among a variety of other designers and labels. COMME des GARCONS recently gave the crew over at the newest Guerrilla Store location in Downtown Los Angeles the green light to design and create some very special LA exclusive items for the shop owners and its staff. Brett Westfall and Tak, the proprietors of the +1213 Guerrilla Store, designed some very unique and tough looking denim vests which feature intricately designed patches that reflect both owners interests in skateboarding and fixed gear bicycles. Also, the front of the vests features patches with the acronyms: V.F.T.I., which stands for Victory For The Independent and D.N.P., which stands for Dirty Ninja Pirates – a way of life. V.F.T.I. signifies the merging of Brett and Tak’s company with the always cutting edge label, COMME des GARCONS. Both companies live by a code of being independent spirits, which is what makes this partnership very exciting. Another interesting tidbit of information is that the clothing on the sales floor rotates, so the store is always kept fresh with new items. Make sure you stop by during its year long occupation in Los Angeles.
Dover Street Market Isetan represents a special team-up between the English/Japanese retailers as they celebrate 150 years of successful Anglo-Japanese relations. While previous news saw Visvim & COMME des GARCONS work together, another release features COMME des GARCONS on a sole account. The collection of shirts range from t-shirts to button-ups each featuring a Union Jack logo. Available now at DSM Isetan.

Japan’s premier department store Istean is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Anglo-Japanese Treaty of Amenity and Commerce with a special collection of products released in association with Dover Street Market. The definitive highlight of the co-designed products is a collaborative effort between Visvim and COMME des GARCONS on a capsule of FBTs and apparel. The “Marketing Machine” FBTs feature an all-over print over three different colors and utilizing the new Folk sole. The apparel consists of a button-up in true CdG form as well as a pocket hoodie. The collection will be avialable exclusively at the special Dover Street Market Isetan space until March 31st.

New from Comme des Garcons are these plaid wallets. This wallet which comes in two colors has a nice black leather interior coupled with a traditional plaid exterior. The wallet measures 12.7 x 11 centimeters has four slots for cards, a coin pouch and of course a place to store your cash. Available now at Colette for 130 Euros.
The Comme des Garcons Guerilla Store concept is where CDG would open a store in a city for a specific duration of time and after that time’s up, it would close down, forever. After opening stores in places like Hong Kong, Warsaw, Singapore, Beirut and Athens, Comme des Garcons has decided to hit Los Angeles. As usual, the store’s hard to find but once you find it, you’ll be offered an opportunity to purchase some exclusive CDG items that you won’t be able to find else where.

For COMME des GARCONS founder Rei Kawakubo, a relationship with the quintessential swimwear makers Speedo represented a perfect marriage of swimwear tech meets CdG’s world renowned design aesthetic. The collection includes both offerings for men and women including accessories, with the full collection available for viewing at Speedo. The collection is currently available at select COMME des GARCONS stockists.
The former protege of fashion label COMME des GARCONS, Junya Watanabe launched his own line Junya Watanabe COMME des Garcons under the watchful tutelage of CdG founder Rei Kawakubo in 1993. Fifteen years later, Junya Watanabe would earn worldwide success with his innovative styling and technical prowess. He recently collaborated with French brand Lacoste in a capsule of items including classic Lacoste polos and jackets.

Every now and then, Comme des Garcons will open up a guerrilla store for a while then close it down and move onto another city. Currently there three guerrilla stores in the world including Athens, Beirut and Warsaw. Last Friday, Comme des Garcon opened their fourth guerrilla store in Singapore. Doraemon is a old school Japanese manga/anime which is considered one of Japan’s top cultural icons. The manga/anime talks about a cat from the future named Doraemon that travels back in time to help a schoolboy, Nobita Nobi. The blog We Love Paris was recently at the mens fashion week in Paris. They had a chance to snap a picture of a upcoming collaboration between Comme des Garcons and Doraemon. In the picture, we see the character Nobita Nobi. Other than this t-shirt, no word yet on what items will be coming out from this project.
Popular Japanese brand COMME des GARÇONS’ ever expansive collection of high fashion, casual apparel and perfumes among other things just got more diverse with the addition of their SHIRT Collection created in association with Danish undergarments brand Hammerthor (circa. 1893). The collection includes boxers, briefs (who still wears these?), tank tops and t-shirts with signature prints. Available at select COMME des GARÇONS’ dealers.

Men’s lifestyle magazine Monocle collaborated with Japanese brand COMME des GARÇONS’s perfumer, Antoine Maisondieu to create an exclusive scent titled Hinoki. The cedary and woody scent draws its inspirations from Japanese hot-spring baths as well as the Scandinavian forest. Available in 2008 at select COMME des GARÇONS retailers and at Monocle’s online shop.

Chrome Hearts has developed a popular following mostly for its high-end jewelery and accessories based on darker gothic themes. The two brands collaborated on a series of pendants and garments.
