Who to See at InScope’s Debut Edition in Miami
The fair names over 70 exhibiting galleries for December: “We don’t believe a better art fair is simply a bigger one.”
Summary
InScope Art Festival announced the exhibitor list for its debut during Miami Art Week, running from December 1 to 6
The lineup includes over 70 galleries hailing from 12 countries, with the focus on bringing new perspectives, practices, and artist-led organizations to the fore
Four pavilions will house the physical presentation, with the indoor-outdoor fair taking place at Ocean Drive at 8th Street
Miami Beach, for most, is a sunny cap to a year in art, but for InScope Art Festival, it’s just the beginning. The fair’s inaugural edition will hit Ocean Drive at 8th Street, from December 1 to 6, bringing a just-announced list of over 70 exhibitors from 12 countries straight to the sands.
The city’s Art Week has come to shape the creative landscape of South Florida for the last 20 years, building on the region’s rich artistic scene. Making a bold entrance, InScope also introduces a new format for connection-based collecting, hoping to shake up the culture around fairs, in Miami and beyond. “We don’t believe a better art fair is simply a bigger one,” said Hayley River Smith, the fair’s Director. “We’ve been intentional about the number of galleries in our inaugural edition because we want to challenge the idea that a successful fair is one where you see as much as possible.”
Four beachfront pavilions will house the gallery presentations. Artist-founded and run galleries (Tlaloc Studios, The Narrative Showroom, See You Next Thursday, Gambit Works, Galería Surco, and 81 Leonard Gallery), for example, have a notable presence. Moving through the space, you’ll find paintings by Andrew J. Park, Diego Hiromi, and Ingebjørg Støyva in dialogue with Pavel Novak’s luminous glass works, fabric pieces by Yvonne Mak, some of Daniel Malikyar’s Weed Nun photos, and Sam Dybeck’s metal teddy bear frames close by. Distinction in material, perspective, and practice give way to discovery, with the focus on creating conversations around the works.
A day-to-night schedule of talks, performances, tours, and wellness events is also on deck, with Feature Projects by Alake Shilling, Aurora Mititelu, Blue Floor Project, Ceren Arslan, Jason Hackenwerth, Nurse, Rabi Towing, and Swoon, alongside the pavilion presentations.
“For us, discovery happens when something makes you stop, when you spend time with a presentation, meet the people behind it, or encounter an artist you didn’t know you were looking for,” Smith continued. “We want people to leave with something they couldn’t have planned to find. That requires giving the work, the galleries, and the people encountering it room to connect.”
Tickets for InScope, running December 1 through 6, are now available online. Read on for the full list of exhibitors.
