Ressence’s TYPE 10 DN Is Designed to Look Like One Continuous Object
Case, dial and strap merge through a monochromatic Dark Night finish and fluid titanium construction.
Summary
Ressence debuts the TYPE 10 DN, its first oil-filled watch powered by an in-house movement.
The 41.5mm titanium watch uses a seamless deep-blue “Dark Night” treatment.
Its ROCS 10 display and RW-04 calibre deliver dual-time functionality and 60 hours of reserve.
Ressence is introducing the TYPE 10 DN (Dark Night), a 100-piece limited edition that represents one of the Antwerp independent’s most ambitious attempts to make mechanical complexity disappear from view.
Four years in development, the TYPE 10 began as a series of sketches by founder Benoît Mintiens exploring how a watch might evolve if shaped by the same principles of efficiency, integration and fluidity found in nature. The result is Ressence’s first oil-filled watch powered by its own movement, with the case, dial and integrated rubber strap visually merging into a single deep-blue form. Its 41.5mm Grade 5 titanium case is polished and treated with hard DLC, while the oil-filled display optically pulls the dial toward the sapphire crystal, further dissolving the usual boundaries between case, crystal and time display.
Beneath that streamlined exterior sits a remarkably elaborate system comprising 538 components. Ressence’s patented ROCS 10 display replaces conventional hands with rotating discs for the hours, minutes and second time zone, alongside a 120-second runner that also acts as a mechanical shock absorber and a color-coded oil-temperature indicator. Driving it is the newly developed RW-04 self-winding calibre, designed in-house for the TYPE 10 and delivering a 60-hour power reserve from twin barrels.
Because the mechanical movement operates in air while the ROCS display moves through oil, the two are housed in separate hermetically sealed chambers and connected magnetically through a 0.1mm titanium membrane. The arrangement allows power to transfer without a physical shaft passing between the two environments, while an expansion chamber compensates for changes in oil volume as temperatures fluctuate.
Despite the engineering involved, the TYPE 10 DN weighs just 82 grams, reinforcing Ressence’s idea that greater mechanical sophistication should ultimately make a watch feel simpler rather than more complicated. Double-domed sapphire crystals frame the front and rear, with the RW-04 visible through a donut-shaped opening at the back, while the Ressence Compression Lock System provides 5 ATM water resistance.
Limited to 100 pieces, the Ressence TYPE 10 DN will retail for 45,000 CHF (approx. $54,700 USD). The timepiece will make its public debut at WatchTime New York before becoming available via the brand from November 2026.
