The panel of 10 women and six men convicted Davis of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, tied to a gang enhancement. He was never accused of pulling the trigger. Under Nevada law, a person who helps carry out a murder can be held as responsible as the shooter, and prosecutors leaned on that principle throughout, presenting Davis as the man who engineered the hit rather than the one who fired it. He remains the only person ever charged in the case and, by the state’s account, the only living occupant of the car the gunfire came from.
At the heart of the prosecution was a revenge narrative. Clark County prosecutors described Davis as a shotcaller for the South Side Compton Crips who moved against Shakur after an attack on his nephew earlier that same night. Much of the case rested not on forensic evidence but on Davis himself, who spent years recounting his role in police interviews, interviews and a 2019 memoir, at one point casting himself as the operation’s on-site commander.
