Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO begins this saga nearly a century before the events of Rogue Orbit, chronicling humanity’s struggle against the mysterious “Apocalypse” ecosystem unleashed by an alien object that once gifted revolutionary technologies like gravity control and FTL communication. The series follows protagonist Ray Azumi, a war orphan and pilot of Gundam ZERO, voiced by Takeo Otsuka.
Announced at San Diego Comic-Con, the multimedia initiative expands Gundam into a brand-new universe spanning both anime and video games, constructed around an ambitious generational narrative envisioned by acclaimed science-fiction filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) with worldbuilding co-developed alongside SF setting supervisor Toh EnJoe. Kamiyama describes the project as a chance to redefine Gundam outside the Universal Century and Common Era timelines, exploring what fundamentally makes Gundam “Gundam” while crafting a fresh vision.
