BALMUDA has unveiled “The Clock,” a reimagined desktop timekeeper designed in collaboration with Jony Ive’s studio LoveFrom. Drawing inspiration from the classic pocket watch, the device is meticulously milled from a solid block of aluminum, resulting in a robust yet elegant modern aesthetic. Rather than utilizing traditional mechanical hands, “The Clock” features an innovative “Light Hour” display, which expresses the passage of time through the gentle movement of light and marks every hour with a visual pendulum effect accompanied by a soft chime.

Designed for versatility and travel, the compact device measures just 7.5 centimeters square, weighs approximately 200 grams, and boasts a built-in battery capable of up to 24 hours of operation via USB-C charging. Beyond simply telling time, “The Clock” offers specialized audio features to support different phases of the day. Its alarm function is engineered to gently awaken the user by gradually increasing natural environmental sounds – such as the morning ambiance of Milan – starting three minutes before the set time.

For work or study, a built-in timer can be set from one to 60 minutes, accompanied by specialized white noise designed to mask distracting background sounds and boost concentration. Additionally, the device’s “Relax Time” mode utilizes built-in stereo speakers to play high-fidelity, immersive soundscapes, such as a crackling lodge fireplace or a boat gliding down a river, helping users unwind before sleep. These settings, alongside custom alarms and dial brightness, can be easily personalized using the companion BALMUDA Connect smartphone app.

“The Clock” is priced at ¥59,400 JPY (approx. $373 USD) and is currently available through BALMUDA’s official online store.
