Introduced in 1988, J. Crew‘s Rollneck Sweater has become one of the brand’s signature styles. As NYFW kicks off, the American clothier has enlisted five New York City-based designers to reimagine its classic sweater in the The Rollneck Remix capsule.
The collection includes contributions from Tanner Fletcher, Eckhaus Latta, Collina Strada, Buci, and Patrick Taylor, who each put a unique spin on the style from their distinct lenses. For Tanner Fletcher and Patrick Taylor, the nautical roots of J. are highlighted. “We wanted to pay homage to J.Crew’s nautical roots—and we had never seen a sweater with the classic sailor flap tie,” shared Tanner Fletcher. However, Taylor’s approach centers on a vintage intarsia reading “J. Crew Sailing Club.”

Eckhaus Latta maintained the original silhouette, imbuing the style with its reworked aesthetic through earth-toned mended patches. “There’s a really nice synergy between the curled edges of the Rollneck™ and the way we like to play with knitwear. Our stitches are very singular to us, and getting to apply them here made a wonderful union,” said the designers.
Buci and Collina Strada leaned into a more feminine expression in starkly different ways. While Buci shrank the silhouette and opted for an exposed, Collina Strada rendered the sweater in stripes and added lace trims to the hemline.
The J.Crew Rollneck Remix collection drops on February 12 at J.Crew.
