Simpul Studio’s renovation of Hibrew Coffee & Cuisine transforms a six-year-old neighborhood café into a contemporary gathering spot while honoring its original house-like charm. Rather than altering the building’s overall form, the architects reinterpreted the façade through cost-effective gestures: punched openings, layers of transparent and frosted glass and linear accents that play off the existing pitched roof. This strategic intervention invites passersby inside without sacrificing the humble, residential character that defines the site.

Inside, the café’s subdued palette and material honesty cultivate a calm, grounded atmosphere. Muted gray walls and glossy black ceramic floors provide a neutral backdrop for a warm teak-wood ceiling, while natural light from expanded windows and skylights choreographs shifting patterns of shadow throughout the day. At the heart of the space, a sculptural bar clad in gray tiles features recessed circular lighting — a playful nod to both the café’s convivial spirit and its minimalist aesthetic.

At the rear, an intimate garden-like courtyard strengthens the indoor-outdoor dialogue. Andesite stone pavers, white gravel and exposed-concrete stairs lead to built-in benches, offering al fresco seating that remains visually connected to the interior.
