Muller Van Severen's "Pillow Sofa" Gets a Glossy Black Upgrade

KASSL Editions and furniture brand BD Barcelona have joined forces to relaunch a squishy sofa designed by Muller Van Severen four years ago in an “undeniably chic” fabric.

The “Pillow Sofa”, which was initially a riff on KASSL Editions’ “Pillow Bag”, was first revealed by Muller Van Severen back in 2021, with KASSL Editions co-founder Ilse Cornelissens describing it as a “symbol of the intersection between fashion and design.”

The Belgian duo sought to emulate the bag’s voluminous form and came up with a design that featured individual cushions connected to a steel frame by fabric-covered bands.

BD Barcelona originally brought the Pillow Sofa back in six fabrics: leather, velvet, canvas, cotton, lacquer cotton, and corduroy, each available in a vibrant hue. The latest addition is the shiny black lacquer cotton, launching this year.

“We’ve always been drawn to shine; the reflecting surface brings the piece to life. Every fabric gives the Pillow Sofa its own unique character, but there is something especially bold and elegant about this glossy lacquered cotton. It’s full of personality and undeniably chic,” said Fien Muller and Hannes van Severen, founders and designers of Muller van Severen.

The new version features all of the same visual components, but has been slightly simplified in terms of its assembly. It will be available on kassleditions.com from August 21.
