The “Meantime” collection by Oslo-based design studio Anderssen & Voll exemplifies a seamless blend of comfort, functionality and modern design. Comprising the AV29 one-seater lounge chair, the AV30 two-seater sofa and AV31 three-seater sofa, this series is characterized by its sleek, light and airy aesthetic.

Designed to transcend the line between residential and commercial environments, the collection’s leisurely proportions provide a sense of understated sophistication while maintaining practicality. One of the defining features of “Meantime” is its wide yet slender armrests, which extend outward to create a silhouette inspired by furniture typically found in transport waiting rooms. This design nods to the liminal spaces where travelers seek comfort while blending into their surroundings. Co-founder Torbjørn Anderssen highlights the essence of the collection, describing the interaction between the armrests and the sofa’s shell as the project’s “DNA,” a domestication of the universal features of public furniture to suit home and commercial settings alike.

The structural elements of the collection emphasize both durability and elegance. Its foundation includes a light shell frame supported by a cast aluminum crib, with cushions forming a unified body featuring parallel lines that complement the outward-reaching armrests. The collection employs carefully selected materials, such as steel armrests, a wooden frame and cast aluminum legs available in polished or powder-coated finishes.

In alignment with sustainable design principles, the “Meantime” collection prioritizes environmental responsibility. Each piece is designed for disassembly, facilitating the separation and recycling of materials at the end of its lifecycle. Removable covers allow for easy repair and renovation, while FSC® certified plywood is used to promote sustainable forest practices. The recyclable aluminum components contribute to a circular production process, reflecting the collection’s commitment to reducing its ecological footprint.

Anderssen & Voll’s “Meantime” furniture collection is now available for inquiry through &Tradition’s webstore.
